Vapeur d'eauIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The standard method 1SO 14268 describes a technique for the measurement of water vapour permeability (WVP) of leather which is based on the mass surge of a desiccant contained in a vessel sealed with the specimen under test. The water vapour that seeps inside the container through the leather specimen is absorbed by the desiccant, the mass of which increases proportionally ; fresh water vapour is provided onto the external side by a constant flow of air conditioned at 23°C and 50% relative humidity that is perpendicularly conveyed onto the specimen surface by a rotating fan.
Since the inner side of the vessel is kept dry by the desiccant, the difference of chemical potential between the two facets generates a diffusive force (quantitatively accounted for by the first Fick's law) that drives water vapour across the leather piece in the out-in direction. The mass increase of the desiccant nominally equates the total amount of vapour that has crossed the leather specimen so that the WVP can be calculated by dividing the mass growth of the desiccant by the duration of the measurement (between 7 and 16 hours) and by the exposed area of the specimen.

Réaction en chaîne par polyméraseIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Traditional identification of fur species is a problem ; without unified standards il depends significantly on the experience of the tester. In this study, we cleveloped a.method of identification of fur species by DNA barcoding based on 16S rRNA gene. 18 usuel fur species sequences of 165 rRNA gene were obtained from Genebank and primers for PCR were designed in the conserved ragions. By the optimization of experimental procedure, polymerase chain reaction (PC R) can be successfully performed with DNA isolated from fur. Sequence analyses of the -240bp production of PCR could help us to authenticate the fur species accurately. Note de contenu : - Reference materials and samples

Cuirs et peaux de moutonsIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Proteolytic and lipolytic moderately halophilic bacteria, originate from salt, may be found on salted sheep skins. Microbial spoilage of sheepskin usually result a from the failure to inactivate proteolytic and Iipolytic micro-organisms during skin preservation. To solve this problem, an effective inactivation method to be used in the leather industry was examined in this study. Protease and lipase activities of moderately halophilic Staphylococcus saprophyticus subsp. saprophyticus (TR5), Bacilius pumilus (DB5), Bacillus licheniformis (DBA2), Gracilibacillus dipsosauri (EK2) and Idiomarina loihiensis (GA3), isolated from salted sheepskins, were examined : Protease activity of each test isolate was determined by bath gelatin agar medium and casein digestion assay at 280nm. Lipolytic activity of each test isolate was determined by bath Tween 80 agar medium and measuring hydrolysis of p-nitrophenylbutyrate to p-nitrophenol at 405nm. Antibiotic sensitivities of test isolates to novobiocin, penicillin G, tetracycline, streptomycin, erythromycin, tobramycin, kanamycin and gentamicin were tested using disc diffusion susceptibility method. These isolates were found to be proteolytic, lipolytic and resistant to aforementioned antibiotics. inactivation effects of direct electric currents and alternating electric currents (0.5A, 1.0A, 1: 5A and 2.0A) on the mixed culture of these isolates were separately examined in liquid medium containing 25% NaCl. The mixed culture was killed in 1 minute by 0.5A direct current and 1.5A affernating current treatments. However, 0.5A alternating current and 1.0A alternating current treatments eliminated these micro-organisms respectively in 15 minutes and 10 minutes. In conclusion, electric current applications hold great potentiel for the eradication of proteolytic and lipolytic, antibiotic-resistant, moderately halophilic bacteria in leather industry. ThermochromieIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : Thermochromic dyes and pigments offer significant potential for functional and aesthetic design of smart textile materials and in the area of the leather industry potential application of thermochromic pigment dispersions opens up a new issue. In this study, thermochromic pigments were applied in the leather finishing process in order to obtain leathers changing colour with temperature and their potential for innovative design concepts accompanied with an evaluation of technical features of the materials is presented. Two thermochromic pigments, providing colour change at 15°C and 31°C were applied at different proportions in the base-coat of the finishing process. The colour measurements and colour change of the thermochromic leathers were determined by a Minolta CM-3600d spectrophotometer bath prior to and subsequent to the rubbing fastness tests.
To and fro rubbing, crockmeter and light fastness properties of leathers were examined according to TS EN ISO 11640, ASTM D5053 and ISO 105-B02 standards respectively. Leathers coloured with thermochromic pigments showed a significant color changing effect depending on temperature and, as expected, the thermochromic effect was improved by a higher thermochromic pigment proportion in the finishing formulation. Fastness properties of thermochromic leathers, except light fastness, were found to be adequate compared to conventionally finished leathers. The findings suggest that the thermochromic pigments could be alternatively used with concentional conventional pigments in leather finishing applications according to leather fashion trends and different designs of leather products in addition to technical leathers and textiles in the field of medical and protective wear applications.Note de contenu : - MATERIALS AND METHODS

(Wikipedia)

StatistiqueIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : In this study, zinc oxide nano-particles, known to have photocatalytic and high UV protection properties, were used in the finishing process to prevent chromium(VI) formation as a result of photoageing in the garment leather products. The researches were carried out on the chrome-tanned garment leather. Nano zinc oxide at the proportions of 0.25%, 0.5% and 1% on nitrocellulose (N/C) emulsion amount were used in the finishing process of leathers. The finished garment leathers were exposed to an artificially accelerated ageing process at 80°C for 24 hours and 80°C/UV for 24 hours. Cr(VI) amounts in each leather sample were evaluated in compliance with ISO/FDIS 17075 standard test method based on the reaction of chromium(VI) with diphenylcarbazide and subsequent colorimetric determination at 540nm by using a double beam Shimadzu 1601 UV visible region spectrophotometer. The leathers finished using nano ZnO were compared to control samples and the way in which ZnO nanoparticles affect Cr(VI) formation was statistically examined by the analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Duncan test. According to research results, it was determined that Cr(Vl) amounts arising in the garment leathers after photoageing were rather high and that the use of nano zinc oxide in finishing process substantially eliminated Cr(VI) formation statistically by providing high UV protection. 18,31 ± 2.46ppm of Cr(Vl) occured under 80°C/UV for 24 hours was decreased to less than 3ppm by 1% of nano ZnO. Using 0.25% and 0.5% of nano ZnO on the amount of N/C emulsion applied also reduced the levels of Cr(VI) to under 3ppm. Note de contenu : - Materials

Tetrahymena pyriformisIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : It has been assumed that the results of calorimetric measurements of heat emissions from the bioindicator cells in extracts taken from leathers (Part 1) are to be confirmed by microscopic studies and measurements of oxygen concentrations related to cellular respiration of Tetrahymena pyriformis. It has been observed that the exposure of the bioindicator in the calorimeter to a harmful extract caused behavioural, morphological and cytophysiological changes in cells. A reduced proliferation rate was also found. The kinetics of the oxygen concentration changes in samples containing the bioindicator and an extract was different from that of samples containing the bioindicator and water. Statistically significant differences between the average oxygen concentration in the systems were compared, thus indicating anomalies in respiratory processes. These results confirm that the changes in heat power values recorded in calorimetric measurements resulted from an effect of extracts on a living organism are related to disturbances in vital functions in cells.
