In a panel test, WorléeAqua Nail 100 was compared on women's fingernails with a standard solvent-based polish and a standard water-based nail polish. After allowing the nails to dry for one hour, a simulation of five minutes of dish washing was carried out, followed by ten rounds of rummaging in a pile of pebbles. Evaluation of the results demonstrated that the water-based nail polish base performed very well in the six categories of application, durability, drying time, smell gloss and opacity. The commercially-available water-based nail polish product received similar ratings for smell. However, it failed to compare favourably in any other category. The solvent-based polish performed less well in the categories of smell and opacity. Furthermore, determination of the pendulum hardness of nail polish made with the new aqueous acrylic polymer led to ratings similar to those of solvent-containing nail polishes. Gloss measurments like wise yielded very favourable results for the new nail polish bases. These evaluations demonstrate that use of the new nail polish bases requires no compromise in terms of durability or other characteristics, and even presents advantages in terms of smell and opacity. Accordingly, the WorléeAqua Nail series proves to be a very good alternative to solvent-based nail polish systems. Note de contenu : - New film-forming acrylic polymers for water-based nail polishes

Developing these products requires understanding the physical characteristics of the ingredients as well as the mechanical process required to manufacture the product. Two essential material characteristics to consider are the ingredient's melting point and its solubility behavior. Depending on the chosen ingredients and the manufacturing procedure different problems can occur of which oil bleeding (sweating) and re-crystallization are the most common ones. There are several reasons possible, sometimes the composition is faultless but the manufacturing procedure does not match the formulation and ruins the result. Yellow, brown, yellow-brown or reddish brown skin tones are part of the same single category of foundation make-up that has always existed. Developing a strategy for extending the boundaries of shading to address a wider range of colour is necessary, especially as demographics change.
Certain pigments and powders can be too white or opaque, or do not match a specific hue or undertone far Hispanic, Asian, Indian, African and Native American skin. The end result may lead to an appearance that is not perceived as natural. This article focuses on the selection of pigments and powders that will help the cosmetic formulator to create a diverse shade palette to address the needs of ethnic skin tones.Note de contenu : - Identifying the key issues

Microbiologie
Règlements (droit administratif)Index. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : On a daily basis, cosmetic manufacturers must deal with the most diverse demands on their products. This includes, amongst others, different microbiological requirements for cosmetic products. In this respect, and further to legal specifications, guidance is provided by various DIN standards. However, responsibility for the nature and extent of the necessary microbiological tests lies solely with the manufacturer. Thus, special consideration must be given to different factors such as the microbiological risk posed by a product, differences between available testing methods, production hygiene, and packaging.
Before marketing a product, however, it must be determined whether it is indeed of a cosmetics nature. As such, cosmetic products can be found in medicines, medical devices, food, consumer products, and biocides. Fortunately, legal definitions of individual categories provide some help in determining the product nature. The following statement can be used by way of a guideline : The more systemic the product effect, the less consistent it is with the definition of cosmetic products.
Advertising with and for cosmetics requires knowledge of the different legal requirements. These include the Directive 2005/29/EC on unfair commercial practices, the Regulation (EC) no. 1223/2009 on cosmetic products and the Claims Regulation 655/2013. In particular, the Claims Regulation 655/2013 defines six principles to be observed by advertisers of cosmetic products : Legal compliance, truthfulness, verifiability, honesty, integrity, and informed decision-making.Note de contenu : - Tableau 1. SurfactantsIndex. décimale : 668.5 Parfums et cosmétiques Résumé : Wetting of solids by surfactant solutions is involved in a variety of applications. An important technique for studying wetting is the measurement of contact angle with the goniometric method. A drop of liquid, placed on a flat surface, is photo¬graphed and the image analysed to give the angle at the edge.
Reproducibility problems are often encountered in contact angle work. These are related to dynamic effects, surface irregularities and surface contamination. Also, there are various measurement procedures, which can give considerably different numerical values of the angle.
This guideline provides an introduction to the theory, an overview of experimental methods and advice on how to obtain reliable contact angles. The different types of contact angles and the corresponding measurement procedures are explained. Typical values for reproducibility, based on both literature and our own inter-laboratory studies, are given.Note de contenu : - SURFACTANTS : WETTING AND CHEMICAL STRUCTURE

Textiles et tissus -- LavageIndex. décimale : 668.1 Agents tensioactifs : savons, détergents Résumé : The counter-effect of protease on cellulase performance in liquid detergents is well-known. DuPont set out to develop a more stable cellulase with a much higher resistance to the degrading effects of subtilisin than currently available enzymes. Using molecular modelling and structure function analysis, it was determined which regions of the cellulase might be susceptible to protease degradation. Molecular genetic techniques were used to generate variant enzymes in the regions identified. High Throughput Screening technology helped to determine a selection of enzymes for further testing/optimization.
At a later stage of development, biochemical and application testing was employed to test the more promising variants for two parameters: (1) Performance in a washing machine in the presence of a typical protease, to test for protease-resistance in consumer-relevant conditions. (2) Stability in a liquid detergent in storage at elevated temperature over a period of 28 days. The results of the development and testing of this new cellulase are detailed in this article. The main conclusions were :
- In a comparison against a competitive cellulase, using different washing conditions for different regions, de-pilling and color renewal were substantially improved
- A significant improvement of the cellulase activity in a protease-containing detergent over 28 days of storage was established.Note de contenu : - RESEARCHING THE DEMAND FOR A MORE EFFECTIVE CELLULASE
