Résumé : |
The need to provide fire protection has long been recognised as one of the main disadvantages wich faces steel in its battle against competitive materials in multistorey construction. This arises, not only, because of the cost of applying the protection itself, in the United Kingdom is currently thought to average 23% of the total cost of the steel frame, but also because of the effects of the application process on the construction programme. It buildings, to find that applying fire protection is one the critical path and so can significantly affect the overall construction time.
This paper looks at the requirements for a fire protection material from the viewpoint of the steelmaker, engineer and architect and also the question of off-site fire protection, an area in wich there is growing interest. |
