Résumé : |
Coatings technology is evolving toward higher solids and water-borne systems. Many functionalized polymers, comonomers or additives have been developed and introduces as the viscosity and performance demands on coatings systems have increased. The volume of patent literature, the ability to create low temperature curing systems, the potential for aqueous systems, and the durability and thoughness imparted by silane crosslinking make an exploration of this technology worthwhile. In this article, mention will be made of some of the extensive literature describing the use of OFS in coatings and related polymeric materials. Literature on the use of silanes as pigment dispersants will not be discussed. Some studies from the author's laboratories on the benefits of using OFS instead of alternative crosslinking agent or adhesion promoters will be described as well as work in solvent-borne acrylic automotive clear coatings and on latex systems. |
