Formulating a high performance coating system has become an every day challenge. Not only do the technical requirements need to be met but more and more, economic aspects need to be considered as well. To meet these challenges, innovative new ideas and concepts in formulating high performance coatings are required. By optimising the well known chrome and nickel titanium yellow chemistries, which exhibit outstanding fastness and durabilty, a new class of pigments has been obtained offering a versatile tool for formulating economic and innovative coatings. Customers who use these new formulations are achieving a 20-30% savings and at the same time receiving improved performance. The improvement is accomplished by an innovative and propriety technology to micronise the pigments while keeping their excellent weather and light fastness as well as their exceptional temperature resistance.Note de contenu : - The pigments

Thinking ouside the box is an objective every pionnering and forward-thinking coating chemist or engineer likes to achieve. Modern and innovative coatings are striving for an apparent breakthough effect that imparts the coating system as an obious added value. This ambition is driven by the general need for creating more and more cost efficient products without turning them into commodities. To prevail it is essential to focus on the right raw materials. One of the most innovative options is the use of 'smart' materials.
A smart pigmentation is a pigmentation that is capable of respondong to change in its environment or that may also exhibit an unexpected functionality.
One of the most striving challenges of this century is a reduction in energy consumption. For example Japan's electricity energy crisis this year is the result of excessive use of air conditionning. If we were able to reduce the heat build-up effect, the energy consumption would have been much lower.
An unexpected functionality, which we therefore need, is the ability to control the adsorption of solar radiation by pigments without affecting their visible colouristic properties. This is what we call a thermo controlling pigmentation.Note de contenu : - What does thermo-controlling mean ?

Simply put, "sustainable innovations" refer to the type of innovation that not only creates an economic advantage for the company but also results in benefits for processors and the environment.
Modern hybrid pigments and second generation dry pigment preparations have a performance potential that simply cannot be achieved with basic dry blending techniques. Examples are hybrid pigments based on an inorganic core and an organic shell as well as mix-mulled dry preparations.Note de contenu : - Hybrid pigments
