Over the past 150 years, atmospheric CO2 has increased by over 30%, resulting in much research directed towards reducing atmospheric carbon levels. Soil carbon sequestration is one dominant approach to reducing atmospheric CO2.
Carbon is critical for soil function and productivity and is one of the main contributors to healthy soil conditions. Soils are a major reservoir in the global carbon cycle, with approximately 1500 Gt of organic carbon present within the top one metre of soils globally.Note de contenu : - Soils and the global carbon cycle

Municipal sludges applied to agricultural land could safely contain up to 500 ppm chrome. The final limitation of 112 ppm of chrome in soif is not realistic, since natural agricultural soils throughout the world contain more chrome than this. Adding chrome to the soil may even be beneficial, since many animal diets are chrome-deficient.
Most leather is now tanned with chromium salts or vegetable and synthetic tannins and combinations of these (although considerable amounts of zirconium, alum, and glutaraldehyde are also in use). Since chromium is so widely used, it is important to consider the effects on the environment of the chemical state and concentrations in which it is discharged in tannery effluents and sludges.Note de contenu : - Chrome valencies
