The shear viscosity, thixotropy, viscoelasticity and the dependence of viscosity on temperature were tested for four kinds of offset printing inks by meons of the measurement of their rheology. The results were compared with a printing test to find the relationship between printability and the rheological properties of inks. It was found that the ink with good printability had relatively low zero shear viscosity, η0, high infinite shear viscosity η∞ and moderate thixotropy with high stress in the high shear range of the rheogrom. Furthermore, the storage modulus was found to be larger and the low activation energy should be smaller for good inks. |
