Can ICPs substitute chromates in anticorrosive coatings ? / Amitabha Ray Chaudhuri in PAINTINDIA, Vol. LVI, N° 5 (05/2006)
[article]
Titre : Can ICPs substitute chromates in anticorrosive coatings ? Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Amitabha Ray Chaudhuri, Auteur Année de publication : 2006 Article en page(s) : p. 59-78 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Chromate surface treatments and chromate-containing epoxy primers are often used for corrosion control of aluminum alloys. However, due to environmental concerns and adverse health effects surrounding such use of chromates, there is an intensive effort to find suitable replacements for chromate-based coatings. Intrinsically conducting polymers (ICPs) continue to be of considerable interest as components of corrosion-resistant coating systems. ICPs, in addition to being conductive, are redox active materials, with potentials that are positive of iron and aluminum. Thus, as with chromate, interesting and potentially beneficial interactions of ICPs with active metal alloys are reviewed in this paper. Note de contenu : Introduction

Titre : Effectiveness of hydroxyfunctional chain transfer agent in acrylic resins Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Amitabha Ray Chaudhuri, Auteur Année de publication : 2002 Article en page(s) : p. 51-56 Note générale : Bibliogr. It is also the most significant factor for determination of the mechanical properties like hardness and flexibility. Recently eco-friendly norms have driven formulators towards high solid coatings which have the additional advantage of the low energy requirement. This demands a resin of low molecular weight for having a higher application solid at a sprayable viscosity. These would however create a problem for thermosetting acrylics because with decrease in molecular weight the probability of functional group(s) required for cross linking per oligomer chains is being reduced. The author of the present paper has ensured that each oligomer chain would have at least one functional group by using new chain transfer agent. The objectives were met by using chain transfer agent which itself had the functional group. A series of experiments were conducted after preparing high solid acrylic oligomers with different monomers and 2- mercapto ethanol as chain transfer agent to check for its effectiveness as molecular weight modifier and molecular weight distribution modifier. The oligomers were also evaluated in coatings with melamine resin to check the gasoline resistance property and flexibility. The author has established conclusively that it is possible to improve both the properties simultaneously using the technique discussed. Note de contenu : - RESIN SYNTHESIS

Titre : Metal catalysis of isocyanate-hydroxyl reaction Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Amitabha Ray Chaudhuri, Auteur Année de publication : 2004 Article en page(s) : p. 71-82 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : This article is a brief review of the metal catalysis in the field of polyurethane coatings. It generally covers the mechanism, kinetics and application of the metal catalysts developed so far. Organometallic tin compounds have served the industry for a long time as metal catalysts. Keeping in mind the environmental concern great emphasis has been given on the latest development of the non-tin metal catalysts - their advantages and short comings. A review on the trouble shooting has also been included keeping in view the application prospects.
This paper consists several pictorial views to strengthen the facts and observations, which are the pillars of further developments.Note de contenu : - Catalysis of isocyanate-hydroxyl reaction
