The success of this new edition and the future of the Colour Index will very much depend on pigment users. The help of the surface coatings industry is required to maintain the integrity of the information by checking that products being offered under Colour Index designations really are registered. There is no charge for registration, so if companies refuse to register their product and make the required declaration, it must be legitimate to question the authenticity of the products being offered.
The Colour Index has always had to respond to the needs of its users, whether they are colorant manufacturers, colour users, researchers or increasingly legislators. The Society and the editorial committee recognise their responsibility to ensure the system is fully understood, indeed this paper is part of that recognition. However, the Colour Index depends on its users to ensure that companies have correctly registered their products, and that it is not being misused. This will ensure the continuation of the Colour Index for years to come, with obvious advantages for the whole industry. |
