These range from anti-corrosive paints, primers and finishes that are durable, UV-resistant, high scratch and impact-resistant, anti-bacterial and water-resistant, coatings that protect iPod screens from scratching or make paper products waterproof.
But of course, this is not the whole story, Health concerns about nanotechnology are well-known but there are also technical problems caused by nanoparticles for the paint and coatings sector. The motion of nanoparticles can be difficult to control, while the particles themselves are hard to encapsulate.Note de contenu : - Coating resistance

Biofouling can be a real headache for the marine industry ; for example, a ship laden with unwanted and adhesive passengers can use up to 40 % more fuel just to match the speed of a barnacle-free ship. The problem has become more urgent since the International Maritime Organization (IMO) International Convention on the Control of Harmful Antifouling Systems on Ships came into force in September 2008. IMO is continuing to urge all its members to ratify this convention while researchers simultaneously seek to fill the "technology gap" and develop novel anti-biofouling coatings, which work through their physicochemical properties rather than the release of biocides.
