SeaCell fibers (cellulose fibers with seaweed extracts by smartfiber AG, Rudolstadt/germany) were treated with aqueous copper chloride solution to prepare copper containing fibers. Experimental results showed that because of the alginate rich seaweed particles dispersed in the fiber structure, SeaCell fibers have good absorption properties for copper ions, with the equilibrium absorption capacity for copper ion at about 7 mg/g. The absorption of copper ion by SeaCell fibers is a relatively fast process, with most of the absorption completed within 30 min. It is possible to prepare SeaCell fibers containing different amounts of copper ions by controlling the copper ion concentration in the treatment solution. |
