Résumé : |
This article presents information concerning a nonionic diol that can be incorporated laterally in polyurethane backbones in order to achieve internal stabilization of polyurethane dispersions. The benefits of using the nonionic diol, in terms of tolerance of the resulting dispersion against electrolytes and shear forces, have been investigated. In addition, the tolerance of the resulting polyurethane coating against polar solvents has also been studied. The nonionic diol was observed to be an efficient dispersant, functioning well together with anionic stabilization in the form of Bis-MPA (dimethylol propionic acid). The lateral positioning of the nonionic segments was observed to greatly improve the dispersion stability and reduce the sensitivity of the corresponding polyurethane coating to solvents. A comparative study between nonionic & anionic PUD clearly shows that nonionic stabilization provides more electrolytic & shear stability. |
