Our products are too variable. They fail too often in application, in the field, and even in our own plants. We have difficulty balancing cost and performance. Finally, development projects take too long and cost too much. In our previous article (ECJ 10/94) we argued that the industry's difficulties with product development have two principal causes. First, the difficulty of translating the customer's real needs into the description of the ideal coating for his or her application. Secondly, a lack of understanding of modern methods of experimental design. The first of this pair of articles described a quantitative technique, the House of Quality, for determining exactly what the customer requires. Note de contenu : - DOE and experimental strategy
