Titre : Advanced waterborne polyisocyanates for polyurethane coatings Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Jean Marie Schwob, Auteur ; Thierry Jeannette, Auteur ; Uwe Wustmann, Auteur Année de publication : 1999 Article en page(s) : p. 40-47 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The evolution of legislation towards the reduction of VOC's led to the development of high solids coatings, soon followed by the development of the first two-pack water-borne polyurethane coatings. This paper provides an overview of the main aspects of formulation of waterborne polyurethane coatings as well as raising some questions before a project is started in such an area of research. Note de contenu : - To reduce VOC's water must be utilized
- Two kinds of polyurethane coatings
- Overview of polyisocyanates for water-borne PU coatings
- Specifics on one-pack and two-pack formulations and performance data

Due to their flexibility, gloss retention and weather resistance, polyurethane coatings are used all over the world in a variety of applications. A number of different hydroxylated resins are available to produce coatings with property profiles ideally suited for specific requirements. Environmental considerations and national legislations impose a continuous reduction of solvent emissions. So both resin producers and paint manufacturers are confronted with those new regulations and the necessity to adjust their production to new stipulations. In this study, it will be demonstrated how the solvent content of a PU formulation can be influenced by the correct choice of a polyisocyanate hardener. Titre : Waterborne 2K acrylic polyurethanes : novel low -NCO/-OH systems Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Chase J. Boudreaux, Auteur ; Amir Niroomand, Auteur ; Thierry Jeannette, Auteur Année de publication : 1999 Article en page(s) : p. 30-35 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Two-component waterborne polyurethane systems have been an active area of research and business development in recent years. Most of these waterborne systems require relatively high isocyanate indexing over hydroxyl content in order to compensate for the inevitable competing reaction with water. We develop combinations of novel acrylic polyol dispersions and a novel water dispersible polyisocyanate that produce useful coatings at -NCO/ -OH indexing of less than 1.25. A discussion is included on how variations in components of the formulations influence pot life, application properties, tack-free and through-cure time film properties, and accelerated weathering data.
