Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Though number of paint systems are available based on epoxy resin for submerged structures, they are not satisfactory from the view point of prevention of corrosion due to foulants. Hence, in the present investigation a new hybrid coating based on siliconised-epoxy interpenetrating polymeric networks have been developed and their corrosion resistant behaviour was studied by weight loss method. In the present study, the commercially available epoxy system GY 250 has been modified by siloxane grafting and the modified resin system is cured by two different curatives viz., aliphatic amine and polyamidoamine. The siliconized epoxy systems cured with aliphatic amine exhibit better corrosion protection due to high cross link density as well as better hydrophobic nature than the system cured with polyamidoamine. For example the epoxy grafted with 10% siloxane gives 98-99% corrosion protection to steel surface, whereas pure epoxy system gives only 80-92% corrosion protection under similar conditions of test. Further, the addition of zinc powder to the coating formulation enhances higher corrosion protection. Note de contenu : - Polymeric coatings play a vital role of surface protection techniques

The corrosion resistant behaviour of siliconized epoxy coating systems with 25% zinc powder cured with four different curatives has been investigated by Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS). The results are comparable with those obtained from neutral salt spray tests. The siloxane (10%) modified epoxy coating system A with 25% zinc powder cured by hexamethylene diamine offers maximum corrosion protection to steel surface. Note de contenu : - Preparation of siloxane modified epoxy coating system
- Preparation of prepolymer mix
- Siloxane introduction into epoxy coating system
- Electrode preparation
- Impedance measurements
- Formation of a low frequency diffusion tail confirms that the corrosion process is a diffusion controlled reaction
- The resistance and the capacitance values of coating systems A, B, C and D are in the range of 10^9 ohm.cm² and 10^-10 F
- Better corrosion protection of steel surfaces
- The Bode plot can be explained with the help of threshold frequency limits and the variation of logarithmic values of impedance with frequency
- The data analysis of the coating systems A,B,C, and D confirms the existence of a single constantPermalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=10994

In the present work a novel siliconized-epoxy coating system was developed by interpenetrating technique. The effect of siloxane introduction into epoxy resin and nature of curatives on the corrosion resistance characteristics towards steel specimen were studied by weight loss and electrochemical potential measurements. It was observed that, the siloxane incorporation enhances the corrosion resistant properties and reduce moisture absorption. It was also observed that the aromatic polyamineadduct cured siloxane modified epoxy coating system with 25% zinc powder exhibits better corrosion resistance than the polyamidoamine cured system.
