With the help of a variety of model dispersions, the current work continues to look at the two binder types by studying how chemically different monomers affect the film properties and those of formulated paints. Note de contenu : - MODEL DISPERSIONS WITH TYPICAL BINDER MONOMERS
- RESULTS OF TESTS ON THE POLYMER DISPERSION FILMS : Good water solubility of monomer causes high water uptake of the polymer film - High Water-vapour transmission rate relates to hydrophilic polymer - Repeated washing and drying influences the tensile strenght - n-butylacrylate copolymers exhibits the greatest photostability, styrene lowers the photostability - High styrene content efectuate yellowing of the pure binder during artificial weathering - Results of natural weathering are contradictive to the accelerated artificial weathering tests
- RESULTS OF TESTS ON PIGMENTED COATING : Water absorption, WVTR's and tensile strengths of the pigmented paints
- WEATHERING OF THE PAINF FILMS : Artificial weathering shows differences in the chalking behaviour but not concerning yellowing - Dirt pick-up-resistance is enhanced by binders'Tg and hydrophobicity - Interpretation of the study resultsEn ligne : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lADJoXg6Oo26qZOwU2bHfLKc0Fd7lXuf/view?usp=drive [...] Format de la ressource électronique : Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=10957

Revêtements organiquesIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Latex paints formulated with two typical commercial acrylic dispersion binders - one a pure acrylic (Ak), the other an acrylic/styrene (Ak/S) were investigated. This included determination of the films mechanical properties, colour change (when subjected to artificial weathering), resistance to water and water-vapour transmission rates. Our investigations revealed there to be little difference between the two types of polymer in the 15-55% Pigment Volume Concentration (PVC) range. As earlier work showed, an optimum PVC and the right combination of pigment and extender are more important than the type of binder. Note de contenu : - Investigation of two typical commercial acrylic dispersion binders
- Test methods and mechanical testing (tensile strength/elongation at break) on the films
- Testing discoloration
- Interaction between the pigment and binder depends on the amount of absorbed water
- The water absorption drops with the number of wash/dry cycles
- Water-vapour transmission rate decrease with PVC
- Two opposing effects influence tensile properties
- Water toughens and improves the extensibility of Ak/S paint films more than Ak paint films
- Pure acrylic paints exhibit superior light stability than acrylic/styrene ones
- Practically no yellowing
