Langues : Américain (ame) Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The effect of ultrasonic treatment on flocculating settling of tannery effluent, the reduction of COD in particular, was studied. The influence of the irradiation method, the duration of ultrasound and offer, and the prescription of coagulants on the efficiency of minimizing organic chemicals in wastewater were investigated. The results show that: (1) when waste water is treated only by ultrasound for 60 seconds, the removal rate of COD is 40.6%; (2) when total concentration of coagulants is increased to 100 mg/l, the greatest reduction of COD is achieved; (3) when wastewater is first treated with ultrasound for 60 seconds and then flocculated by coagulants, the reduction of COD is 10 - 37% higher than the controls without ultrasound. Thus, treatment of tannery wastewater with flocculating-settling technology can be effectively improved by ultrasound. The pollution due to chromium is one of the major constraints in the leather industry. Chrome recovery and reuse methods have already been well addressed and are being implemented by many tanneries. The other area of release of chromium is semichrome process where the recovery and reuse becomes problematic due to the presence of the vegetable tannins. An attempt has been made to selectively remove the vegetable tannins with the subsequent recovery and reuse of chromium for chrome tanning. In this study, the vegetable tannins present in the semi-chrome-spent liquor are precipitated using zinc chloride and barium chloride. It has been observed that the COD of the spent chrome liquor is reduced by 44 and 53%, respectively after the precipitation of vegetable tannins using zinc chloride and barium chloride. The chromium is then recovered through known methodology and reused for conventional chrome tanning. The characteristics of the wet-tanned and crust leathers have been studied. It has been found that recovered chrome liquor when used for tanning after precipitation of vegetable tannins with zinc chloride gives better results in terms of color, smoothness and feel of the leather. When extremely low gloss is required as a coating attribute on top of these properties, current state of coatings art requires the use of high loadings of dulling agents. High duller loadings can detract from coating mechanical properties and adhesion. This paper reports on a novel, film-forming polymer chemistry that is inherently of extremely low gloss. This chemistry makes it possible to avoid high loadings of duller and to arrive at highly flexible and abrasion resistant low-gloss finishes. Gloss levels of as low as a few tenths of a percent, even at high incidence angles, have been achieved with zero loading of extraneous dulling agent. A benefit of this approach is low haze enabling jetter blacks and more intense renditions of colored undercoats. The polymer exhibits an unusual film morphology. A theoretical model susceptible to exact mathematical interpretation is invoked to explain how this morphology operates to achieve gloss control. The model casts light on dulling mechanisms and the origins of haze in conventionally dulled finishes.
