Vapeur d'eauIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : For decades, polymer technology has provided the civil engineering sector with high performance flooring systems. Waterborne epoxy primers are well described for delivering excellent adhesion to concrete substrates and for providing unique water vapour permeable flooring solutions. Solvent-free epoxy floorings, on the other hand, promote both increased mechanical and chemical protection to concrete substrates, allowing for enhanced durability. In the topcoat and sealer applications, 2-pack polyurethanes have built a reputation, in particular where satin finishes in combination with durability against UV light and high wear resistance, are desired.
Novel flooring technologies are presented in this paper that address industry performance short-falls and demand for fast return, with reduced environmental impact. The use of high performance, rapid return epoxy primers in conjunction with aliphatic polyamine-cured isocyanate topcoats delivered to the end-user a novel combination of performance properties.
Individual features such as clean air (or emission compliance) are no longer sufficient and often considered 'must-have'. The additional synergy is found when combining polymer technologies to a 'system approach' in which each technology component delivers added value to architect, applicator and end-user. A combination of broad formulation latitude ; fast property development at both ambient and low temperatures ; and high mechanical and chemical integrity are demonstrated, which result in polymer floorings with excellent properties well-suited for use in civil engineering, protective coating and structural adhesive applications.Note de contenu : - Primer application to concrete - adhesion and fast walk-on

Revêtements en phase aqueuse:Peinture en phase aqueuseIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Conventional acrylic polyols for waterborne polyurethane topcoats are usually prepared via a solution polymerisation process, which is then followed by solvent removal. Thereafter, the resins are dispersed in water. This lengthy process requires high energy levels to distil the solvent and favours side reactions that negatively affect performance of the derived coatings.
This work demonstrates that high quality acrylic resins can be prepared in a very convenient, simple, one step process using glycidyl esters as reactive diluent. Resins were prepared with a solvent level of about 10% with either glycicyl neodecanoate or a novel glycidyl neoanoate. The latter provides resins with a higher glass transition temperature and, therefore, coatings with a faster hardness development rate. Derived 2K polyurethane clearcoats combine properties, such as excellent appearance, durability and drying speed. Further, glycidyl esters reactive diluents were combined with lower molecular weight polyesters to attempt to eliminate the need for any solvent during acrylics polymerisation.Note de contenu : - THE POPPING OR BLISTERING ISSUE

Revêtements:PeintureIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The principle of intumescence (swelling and charring in the presence of fire) is gaining importance beyond its traditional fields of application while a larger effort is done by fire scientists and chemists to fine effective alternatives to halogenated flame retardants. Originally discovered in the 60s, this technology was used on a larger scale since the 80s for the fire protection of steel and wood structures. Later, waterborne and halogen-free formulations became available.
This paper presents novel results, obtained in two European projects, on the application of intumescent coatings to improve reaction to fire of polymers. Two systems, based on different intumescent coatings applied on PE and HIPS, will be shown to achieve very high levels of flame retardancy, while being halogen-free and very low VOC. The excellent fire ratings that can be achieved promise a range of new application possibilities from electronics to vehicles to building construction.Note de contenu : - INTUMESCENT COATINGS FOR FRP : Reaction to fire involves - Resistance to fire involves
