South Africa has a plethora of environmental and waste legislative requirements which also include international legal obligations. The Constitution of the Republic of South Africa provides for the sustainable management of the environment and pollution through the application of Section 24 in the Bill of Rights - the right to an environment that is protected. The right provides for a protected environment, reinforced by the right to information, locus standi and the opportunity to apply international law in the interpretation and enforcement process. |
