Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : Reactive extrusion - Poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA) is quite promising for use as biodegradable and non-petroleum derived plastics. In this study we developed an innovative two-step polycondensation process so as to produce economically PLLA with high molecular weight. The process is composed of both melt polycondensation under the lactide-reflux and solid-phase polycondensation. First we studied a direct polycondensation of L-lactic acid with a small amount of solvent, using a mixture of L-lactic acid as raw material, diphenyl ether as solvent, Tin (II) chloride dihydrate as catalyst, and p-toluene sulfonic acid as a discoloration prevention agent. After the dehydrative oligomerization of L-lactic acid, the polycondensation of the oligocondensates and solid-phase post-polycondensation, PLLA of Mw=266,000 could be obtained. Then, we carried out direct bulk polycondensation tests from L-lactic acid without any solvent added. After optimization of the reaction conditions, PLLA with Mw=134,000 was successfully produced by the melt-polycondensation of L-lactic acid accompanied by solid-phase post-poly-condensation. In both systems, the lactide-reflux was indispensable for promoting dehydration/water removal. The refluent lactide was taken into the polymer-chain by trans-esterification reaction during the melt-polycondesation. Furthermore, the catalyst was allowed to deactivate and stabilize during the solid-phase polymerization to cause the Mw growth. VulcanisationIndex. décimale : 668.4 Plastiques, vinyles Résumé : Thermoplastic vulcanizate (TPV) nanocomposites based on 60/40 (%wt) natural rubber (NR)/polypropylene (PP) blends were prepared by melt blending in an internal mixer. Sodium montmorillonite (Na-MMT) was first added in natural rubber latex to obtain natural rubber/clay masterbatch, which was subsequently dynamically crosslinked while mixing with molten PP. The effect of Na-MMT content were examined concerning elastomeric properties of NR/PP blends dynamically vulcanized using phenolic resin as a curing agent. Morphology characterization observed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and 3D microfocus X-ray computerized tomography showed that the dynamic vulcanization with nanoclay addition changed the blend morphology from a co-continuous-like structure to droplet-like phase one, and the clay remained within NR phase in intercalated and aggregated forms. Furthermore, the presence of clay induced the decrease in crosslinking of NR, but promoted the mixing between NR and PP during dynamic vulcanization. This suggested that nanoclay worked as a kind of morphology modifier during dynamic vulcanization. The addition of clay marginally enhanced the 100 % modulus and tensile strength, but led to the decrease of the elongation at break. The optimal level of tensile strength improvement was obtained with loading of 5 phr clay. The permanent set of the NR/PP/Clay TPV nanocomposites was well maintained at the acceptable level as elastomer. The resistances to oil and heat were improved with incorporation of clay, proportional to clay loading. The experimental results indicated that the nanoclay had a positive effect on improving the 60/40 NR/PP blend morphology, which provided a little benefit to strength of the TPVs. However, the addition of nanoclay offered an improvement in oil and thermal resistances due to a combined effect of the clay dispersion and improved morphology of NR and PP blends. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 668.9 Polymères Résumé : Recent progress in polymerization easily allows the control of precise structure of a base polymer and accelerates lower-cost production using larger-scale-plants. In addition to this, today’s more important issue in our industry is the development of the key-technology corresponding to a sustainable society. Under these circumstances, the polymer industry in Japan has been focussing on down-stream products from upper-stream using advanced processing technology. To meet today’s trends, the polymer industry should establish more sophisticated technology in both higher functionality and hybridization to survive in the 21st century. in particular, various hybridized polymer-processing systems such as the combination of reactive extrusion and injection molding should be applied to create cost-effectiveness and less environmental burdens as well as higher performance.
