Physical properties, adhesion to plastics and metal, and environmental durability are comparable or, in many cases, superior. Performance surpasses that of typical second generation adhesives, offering increased peel adhesion and improved impact resistance at low temperatures. Good fatigue resistance was observed up to one million cycles, with fatigue limits in excess of 1,200 psi. As such, the new mathacrylate is expected to become a proven performer in structural marine and transportation applications. Note de contenu : - Application and cure

Perhaps two decades further out will find them as equally important as they are today. A few of the future needs :
- nano-region particles for toughening thermoset resins, achieved in the development of the multiphase adhesives mass morphology, ostensibly allowing greater transfer of toughness from neat to highly filled systems ;
- peeling strengh improvement in high-temperature adhesives (presently inadequate at both operating temperatures and high load rates) ;
- more than marginal improvements in strength and toughness, particularly under tensile and shear loads ;
- a major leap forward in service life of bonded assemblies for severe environments and in modeling/gauging their predictions ;
- more raw materials designed for the structural adhesives formulator ; and
- major advances in the "command" cure concept.Note de contenu : - Understanding cure

Traîtements de surfaceIndex. décimale : 668.3 Adhésifs et produits semblables Résumé : Whether you are bonding aluminum to brass on a thermal-switch or a horse shoe to a horse's hoof, proper surface preparation is essential to good adhesive bonding.
To ensure you have high bond strength and permanence, it is important to thoroughly clean and prepare the substrates. Proper surface preparation is just as important in coating, potting and encapsulation applications.
If the surface of a substrate is properly prepared, the cause of any bond failure will most likely be 'cohesive failure.' On the other hand, if the problem is 'adhesive failure,' alternative surface preparation methods should be investigated. Ideally a bond failure should be primarily cohesive.Note de contenu : - Factors in adhesive bonding
