Résumé : |
There is no better way to gauge the influence of environmental constraints, new technology development and colour trends than in the automotive industry. If one follows the evolution of trends in this arena, one can view the advent of what is to come in the future. New application techniques have been born from the need to differentiate the application effectiveness of low solid lacquers, high solids, water-bornes etc. new chemistries have arisen from the need to protect from environmental fallout. Consumers have increased their quantity awareness to mandate better mechanical properties within the coatings themselves. This article provides a general overview of the type of coatings used in automotive applications, where the requirements of appearance and durability are mcst severe, as well as discusses future trends as seen through the eyes of the automotive engineers and scientists. |
