A theoretical relation correlating particle size and refractive index with diffuse reflectance of particulate system is proposed. Fundamental optical and morphological parameters of particulate systems are determined. Colourimetric curves of seven single component and fifteen binary/ternary mixtures are experimentally measured and compared with predicted curves determined using proposed relation. Overall performance evaluation of the theoretical formulation is made by determining colour difference between measured and calculated curves. Results show that the proposed method satisfactorily work to assess the colourimetric curves of particulate matter. The theoretical technique will be useful to study the colour change due to variation in size in pigment dispersions or chemical powders. |
