Résumé : |
In spite of growing demand for water based paints, no properly documented Size Exclusion Chromatographic method for studying molecular weight distribution of emulsion polymers is available in literature, and hence, in the light of this, a simple, quick and reproducible method has been proposed for the molecular weight determination of all acrylic and styrene acrylic emulsion polymers. The emulsion sample is dissolved in tetrahydrofuran and injected into a mixed bed column. Distributed species are detected through a high range refractive index detector and PL logical software is used to compute molecular weight distribution related data. Polystyrene standards are used to plot a calibration curve. The selection of polymer peak limits is done manually. Various experimental factors related to sample preparation and chromatographic conditions which affect reproducibility are carefully studied before arriving at the proposed method. |
