Titre : Proteins - innovative bas materials for adhesives and coatings Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Ralf Quack, Auteur Année de publication : 2002 Article en page(s) : p. 39-44 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Proteins exhibit a considerable innovative potential when used as based polymers in formulating adhesives, binders and coatings. The interest in using proteins in these areas has risen fundalentally, especiallyat present. this development is due to various reasons. Protein isolates can be purchased at the world market for prices that are comparable to the prices of synthetic polymers. in particular the residues of processing and extraction occuring in the procduction of plant oils from various oil seeds as soy, rapesseed, sunflower and cottonseed are a source of high-grade protein isolates. Protein isolates from cereals as wheat, corn or rice are available in high amount. Likewise, protein isolates can be produced from legumes such as lupinus and peas.
The structure of a protein, i.e its primary, secondary and tertiary structure, causes the technological properties of a protein and ths defines its potential for technical application. By chemical application e.g by alkylation, acetylation, phosphorisation, estericfication, oxidation or reduction the technological properties of the protein can be vary manifold. The enzymatic modifications of proteins by preteases that selectively cleave the peptide bonds within the amino acid sequence give products with adaptated rheological properties. Besides chemical and enzymatic pmodifications combined physical and chemical methods lead to a significant alteration of protein properties. Denaturising agents such as urea, sodium dodecylesulfate or guanidine-hydrochloride give rise to the unfolding significantly improves the adhesive properties of proteins.
Biotechnological processes combined with the methods of genetics engineering create possibilities for almost tailormade proteins that can be used in technological applications, e.g in adhesives and coatings. Protein sequences and the genes that encode these sequences have been patented within the context of marine adhesives.Note de contenu : - INTRODUCTION : Protein adhesives - Chemical modification,

Titre : Rheology and its influence on the performance of thermosetting powder coatings Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Krishnendu Ghosh, Auteur Année de publication : 2002 Article en page(s) : p. 45-58 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Rheology is the science offlow and deformation of matters. The knowledge ofrheology and its dependent parameters is very crucial in understanding of the performance of powder which is a key factor in the design of a powders with desired properties. Rheology of thermosetting powder coatings has a strong influence on the film formation and thereby on the properties of the cured film. The rheology of thermosetting powder coatings depends on both viscosity and surface tension during the curing process. The rheology of thermosetting powder coatings differs much from that of a liquid paint. In this article these differences have been discussed. Besides surface tension and viscosity the effect of pigment dispersion, pigment concentration, film thickness, cluster formation, air bubble entrapping and particle size on the film formation of the thermosetting powder coatings has also been elaborated. The author of this paper has also described the effect of additives on flow promotion and the use of curing agents, their on flow and other properties. [article]
Titre : FT-NIR spectroscopy in the ink and paint industry Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Eszter Trenka, Auteur ; Joachim Oelichmann, Auteur Année de publication : 2002 Article en page(s) : p. 59-62 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Colour is one of the most demonstrative features of all kinds of goods. In most cases organic colored pigments are used to achieve the desired appearance. However pigments influence much more properties than just the colour, therefore the definition and maintenance of quality standards of the intermediates and raw materials used in pigment synthesis and paint production is crucial. The chemicals used range from organic fine chemicals for synthesis to products of inorganic basic chemistry and to special surface active agents, surfactants and resins.
These requirements lead to an increasing demand for quality control in the whole branch of industry. According to the extensive norms (ISO, TQM) the tests should include the various stages of production from raw material to end product. The necessity of many measurements cause increasing costs. Therefore a fast, precise, simple and cost saving analytical technique is needed.
Today quality control by NIR spectroscopy is an integral part of the process during the production of inks and paints. It is efficient and motivating for the employee in the production to control various chemical and physical parameters by himself and to introduce necessary corrections. The aim of the tests is to maintain the quality of the end products.
Not only the producer of inks and paints but also the producer of the raw materials need to perform quality tests, which are not only restricted to simple physical parameters. Legal requirements and specifications of his customers must be fulfilled.Note de contenu : - NEAR-INFRARED SPECTROSCOPY
