Résumé : |
The suitability of shellac-based compositions as internal can coating lacquers was studied for possible use by the packaging industry. Several formulations based on shellac and different, commercially available synthetic thermosetting resins, including urea formaldehyde, melamine formaldehyde, phenol formaldehyde (resole type) and polyvinyl butyral resin, etc. were evaluated as per IS: 5818 (1988) specifications. All formulations were based in a spiritless solvent medium. It was observed that certain formulations showed good potential for use as can coating lacquers and, if adopted by the can coating industry, were likely to give a boost to the consumption of lac resin in this virgin field, both in India as well as abroad. |
