On ocean-going vessels fouling leads to a significant increase in fuel consumption, as well as loss of speed and manoeuvrability. The most effective solutions to marine fouling to date are the TBT SPC coatings. At present, the suggested alternatives for TBT SPC systems have yet to demonstrate their long term performance under different fouling conditions. Further proof is needed that the increased release of new biocides and their metabolites do not carry unknown enviromental risks.t Note de contenu : - Fouling

DMTA is a non-resonant, forced vibration type of device capable of operating over a wide frequency range and which measures the viscoelastic response of materials under a sinusoidally oscillating stress for both supported and unsupported materials. It provides a valuable link between chemistry, morphology and performance properties of materials and its application ranges from the measurement of bulk viscoelastic properties to sophisticated analysis of the kinetics of the crosslinking reaction. The interpretations and application of dynamic data can be utilized to calculate cross-link density (XLD), elastically effective chain length between crosslinks (Mc) and the glass transition temperature of the coating materials. The results and information obtained from DMTA can be correlated with other coating film properties. The present paper describes the utility of DMTA in developing coating materials. Titre : Organic metals combat corrosion Titre original : Conductive polymers shift the electro-chemical potential of steel by up to 800mv Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Bernhard Wessling, Auteur Année de publication : 2001 Article en page(s) : p.49-52 Langues : Anglais (eng) Tags : 'Phénylène(amino) polymère' 'Conductivité électrique' 'Phénylène dérivé Liant 'Peinture anticorrosion' 'Protection corrosion' Acier 'Matériau revêtement' Index. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Outdoor installations suffer severe financial damage every year as a result of corrosion. Corrosion protection is therefore a vital element of preventive maintenance. In contrast with the purely defensive barrier coatings traditionally used, organic metals are able to provide active protection. Note de contenu : - Organic metals are conductive polymers
- Corrosion protection properties
- Direct action only on metal surfaces
- Wide range of applications
- Also suitable for aggressive environments
- Protection for pipelines

Especially, for manufacturing of printing inks air-drying oils have been used very often. Even Johan Gutenberg's printing inks have been blends of air-drying oils and natural resins. With the development of the chemical industry parallel the diversification of printing technologies, more and more synthetic, petro-chemical products have been used in the formulation of printing inks. organic pigments petro-chemical resins and petrochemical solvents have been developed to satisfy the demands of modern inks and progressive printing technologies. Recently, improved environmental concerns and the fact that petrochemical resources are limited raised the use of renewable raw materials in many fields of application.
