This research aimed to develop robust multifunctional class II organic-inorganic hybrid coatings for implants with osteoconductive and antibacterial properties. 3-Glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane was coupled with organic polymer poly(ethylene) glycol-diamine (PEG-NH2) for integration into an inorganic sol backbone composed of tetraethoxysilane and calcium, which was sourced from newly synthesized calcium-2-ethoxyethoxide. Nuclear magnetic resonance and attenuated total reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy confirmed synthesis of precursors and the structure of coating constituents. Scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) demonstrated homogenous coatings, micro-topographical surface features, and apatite-like ex vivo mineralization in simulated body fluid. Tensile adhesion testing demonstrated robust and highly adherent (15.1 ± 3.3 MPa) coatings on titanium substrates. Hybrid coatings imbedded with silver nanoparticles (nAg) significantly inhibited (P < 0.05) Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli planktonic cultures and biofilm formation. These Si-Ca-PEG-nAg hybrid coatings for titanium implants offer robust multifunctional features. Orthosilicate de tétraéthyleL'orthosilicate de tétraéthyle (TEOS) est un composé chimique de formule Si(OCH2CH3)4 ou plus simplement Si(OEt)4; l'abréviation TEOS (pour tetraethylorthosilicate) est généralement utilisée dans l'industrie du sol-gel, où il est intensivement étudié. La majorité des études en sol-gel pour des sols de silices ont utilisé ce produit comme précurseur.
Le TEOS est généralement produit par alcoolyse du tétrachlorure de silicium SiCl4 dans de l'éthanol CH3CH2OH :
SiCl4 + 4 CH3CH2OH → Si(OCH2CH3)4 + 4 HCl.
Il est utilisé pour la réticulation de silicones et possède certaines applications comme précurseur du dioxyde de silicium SiO2 dans l'industrie des semi-conducteurs6 dans le cadre d'une réaction sol-gel. La propriété remarquable du TEOS est en effet de former du SiO2 par simple hydrolyse en libérant de l'éthanol CH3CH2OH :
Si(OCH2CH3)4 + 2 H2O → SiO2 + 4 CH3CH2OH.

SiliceLa silice est la forme naturelle du dioxyde de silicium (SiO2) qui entre dans la composition de nombreux minéraux.
La silice existe à l'état libre sous différentes formes cristallines ou amorphes et à l'état combiné dans les silicates, les groupes SiO2 étant alors liés à d'autres atomes (Al : Aluminium, Fe : Fer, Mg : Magnésium, Ca : Calcium, Na : Sodium, K : Potassium...).
Les silicates sont les constituants principaux du manteau et de l'écorce terrestre. La silice libre est également très abondante dans la nature, sous forme de quartz, de calcédoine et de terre de diatomée. La silice représente 60,6 % de la masse de la croûte terrestre continentale.

While some users prefer the colour of denim fabrics to have different colours as they use them, others want to be provided with colour stability of the fabrics during use. In this study, the effect of a sol-gel technique on indigo dyed denim fabrics was investigated. The aim was to reduce the colour change that occurs in denim fabrics as a result of external factors by using silica-based coatings. The sols were prepared by using TEOS (tetraethylortosilicate) and different volumes of GPTS ((3-glycidyloxypropyl)trimethoxysilane) as precursors in acidic and alkaline conditions. Synthetic indigo dyed cotton denim fabrics were treated with the sols by applying the pad-dry-cure method. It was determined that the colour strength of the treated samples increased and the fabrics treated with the sols prepared in alkaline condition became darker compared to the sols in acidic condition. It is seen that the use of crosslinkers while preparing the sol could improve the rubbing and washing fastness of commercial denim samples. Sol-gel, ProcédéIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : Protection of aluminum metal and its alloys from corrosion is a key requirement for many engineering applications. Nowadays, sol–gel coating technology is recognized as the ideal replacement for chromate conversion coatings. The present work makes use of 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GPTMS) as a precursor for sol–gel coating. GPTMS was subjected to hydrolysis and subsequent condensation reaction to get a three-dimensional network and methylthiourea (MTU) was incorporated into the sol–gel matrix. MTU-doped GPTMS-based sol–gel coatings were applied over aluminum metal by dip coating method. The resultant coating was studied by FTIR, XRD and SEM. MTU-doped GPTMS-based sol–gel coatings increased the hydrophobic nature of the coating and were stable up to a temperature of 450°C. The protective nature of the coatings was evaluated in a 1% NaCl environment using electrochemical impedance and polarization studies. The study has revealed that doping of MTU enhanced the protection ability of doped GPTMS-based sol–gel coating to a significant extent. Tannage Résumé : Tanning with silicic acid, a kind of silicon-containing materials, is considered as a more environmentally benign process; however, the obtained leather would become stiff and brittle during storage in spite of possessing acceptable shrinkage temperature (Ts). Herein, we incorporated organosilicon material attaching silicon atoms with T linkage structure (e.g. glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane, GPTMS) in the leather-making process to investigate hydrothermal stability and porous structure, in particular their variation along with different storage time, through Ts determination, DSC analysis, SEM observation and SEM-EDS test. The results confirmed that the introduction of GPTMS stabilized properties of the resultant leather during accelerated ageing process, which may be ascribed to that GPTMS could prevent silicon hydroxyl groups existing in collagen fiber matrix from further condensation. Besides, the tanning mechanism of chrome-free tanning agent based on silicon materials such as silicic acid and GPTMS was investigated preliminarily by means of FT-IR and XPS analysis, indicating hydrogen bonds between silicon hydroxyl groups and amino groups in collagen molecules, and the covalent bonding formed by epoxy group of GPTMS and carboxyl groups of collagen fibers are beneficial to improvement of the properties of silicon-based materials tanned leather. These findings provide an effective and promising strategy to control condensation of silicon hydroxyl groups, and are of great significance to the development of a chrome-free tanning technology based on silicon materials.
