Dispersion of pigment can be considered as three main precesses being carried out simultaneously. They are mainly :
- Size Reduction
- Pigment Wetting
- Dispersion Stabilization
Today modern dispersing equipments are very much advanced and efficient to get effective size reduction in the lowest possible time. These newer high-energy mills are now slowly replacing conventional ball mills and, to some extent, conventional and mills. THough these modern dispersing equipments are taking care of the size reduction, the wetting and dispersion stabilization is still being handled in a conventional way. Due to the development of newer resins and paint systems in the field of coating technology, wetting and stabilization is getting more and more challengingNote de contenu : - What is pigment wetting ?

SurfactantsIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The trend to rationalise paint production has led to a widespread use of a "universal colorant". A tinting system for a wide range of shades will be able to respond to the majority of user's requirements, reducing at the same time expensive and unwanted stock.
Nowadays, universal colorants are offered that meet the high quality standards of modern surface coatings. In order to obtain optimal results, it is necessary that the universal colorants are totally compatible with aqueous as well as with non aqueous paint system and remain stable upon storage. But even the best of these colorants may require some modification of paint base in order to obtain the satisfactory tinting. Otherwise, they would show problems of colour developments. When the tint bases are properly formulated, these colorants can be used for inplant shading, in retail outlets and in small batch operations that use dispensing colorant machines, thereby producing paints with a great variety of shades for the end user, with minimal inventory cost.Note de contenu : - Background

Colour takes us to a dreamland, albeit dream itself is not coloured. Colour has a great impact on our psuche, and influences our thoughts and deeds. We continuously witness many popular products associated with a colour. As an example, national flags of every county are remembered by their colours. Another example is that of a fire engine and a fire extinguisher that always uses a red colour. A postal mailbox uses red colour, while lifeboats are depicted in orange. There are many such examples of the use of colour to associate different products Note de contenu : - Perception of colour

The selection of initiator system is important for such a development. These developed IPN emulsions of urethane/ acrylic system were compared with plain acrylic emulsion and a physical blend of plain acrylic emulsion with two types of PUD, i.e. aliphatic urethane polymer and self crosslinking aliphatic urethane polymer with respect to mechanical properties of film, particle size distribution and water resistance. All the developed IPN emulsions were evaluated in a paint formulation for mechanical properties, chemical properties and accelerated weathering properties. They were also compared with paints based on plain acrylic emulsion and physical blends of plain acrylic emulsion with both the PUDs. Note de contenu : - Polyurethane dispersions
