Recently hollow spheres of nanometer to micrometer dimensions called microspheres form a new and important class of shape fabricated materials. The most important advantage with microspheres is that its shell can be constructed from a variety of materials of valuable scientific interest and technological importance. These include magnetic, semiconducting, ceramic, metallic, biomolecular, polymeric and composite materials. As a result microspheres find wide application in chemistry, physics, biology, medicine and other science disciplines, as controlled release capsules (drugs, dyes, cosmetics and inks), artificial cells, catalysts, fillers, supports, abrasives, ball point pen tips, composites, thermal insulation, electrical circuit boards, chromatography, shock absorbing armour plate, gas or chemical storage and in electromagnetic (EM) wave absorbing coatings. |
