Résumé : |
Protecting steel structures against corrosion in highly aggressive environment involving harsh service conditions is always a challenging task. Coating technologists and researchers are in constant search of novel polymers and materials to design new generation high performance coatings that can fulfill the growing expectations of customers in terms of enhanced service life at reduced applied cost and compliance to ecological, application and safety needs. Of late extra corrosion resistance glass flake having high aspect ratio are becoming the integral part of many high performance coating due to its chemical inertness, low water vapour permeability, superior cathodic disbondment properties and abrasion resistance. Solvent free or high solid glass reinforced coatings can provide an effective solution against the premature failure of coating systems even under the most demanding service environments like splash zone in offshore refineries, underwater immersion, internal tank linings involving harsh chemicals. The present study will elaborate on the benefits of glass flake reinforcement in high solid epoxy coatings. |
