Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Nature offers a range of colour displays which are relatively short-lived and which were for many centuries little understood. Today we can explain most which arise from diffraction and reflection effects on rays of sunlight, various atmospheric ionisation phenomena and many colour effects resulting from biochemical reactions, although less is understood about some of the strange psychedelic patterns and colours which our brains can sometimes produce. The practical purposes to which certain fluorescent, thermochromic and photochromic dyes can be put, including their presently limited textile applications, are illustrated. Parmar, Auteur ; Ashok C. Rao, Auteur ; Varinder Wadhwa, Auteur Année de publication : 2010 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Over the past few decades, masterbatch production has been increasing year by year. Pigments are used primarily in masterbatches because of their ability to impart colour or opacity to a matrix. The effectiveness of pigments depends not only on their intrinsic ability to absorb or scatter light, but also, importantly, on the dispersiblity and distribution of the pigments that can be achieved in plastics. Nowadays, stringent environmental as well as excellent quality controls are making inevitable the use of non-dusty monoconcentrated predispersed pigments for the production of masterbatches for the colouring of plastics. Commercially, for the most part, two types of monoconcentrated predispersed pigments are being used for the colouring of thermoplastic masterbatches. These are polymer- and wax-based predispersed pigments. This study has been undertaken to provide a comparison of the colouring properties of polymer- and wax-based monoconcentrated predispersed pigments. Four commercially used organic pigments have been selected. Both types of monoconcentrate predispersed pigments have been developed on a co-rotating twin-screw compounding extruder with a length/diameter ratio of 44. A detailed analysis on the comparison of the colouring properties is presented. Results indicate that good colour properties are achieved when operating conditions are optimised. Note de contenu : Predispersed pigments for manufacturing masterbatches.

Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : In this paper, the effect of ?-cyclodextrin as an additive in the dyeing of polyester with disperse dyes, as a substitute for a commercial surfactant commonly used, was explored with the aim of reducing the environmental impact of the exhausted baths. Using a chemometric approach, a small group of dyes was selected as a ‘training set’ to be representative of a larger series of dyes with a similar structure. The selected dyes were synthesised and applied to the dyeing of polyester fibres under various conditions. The technological properties of the dyed samples were measured. The results showed that ?-cyclodextrin can satisfactorarily be used as an additive in dyebaths for polyester without the addition of other auxiliaries, with a positive environmental impact. Solubility isotherms evidenced dye–?-cyclodextrin interactions. The formation of inclusion complexes did not produce negative effects on the dyeing performance. Light fastness values were modelled as a function of the structure by the chemometric partial least squares method and the established model was used to predict the fastness of dyes of analogous structure, not yet explored. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : The initial rates of photofading for 30 disperse azo dyes on nylon fabric upon exposure to a carbon arc in air have been analysed by formulating a kinetic equation that describes azo scission via the disproportionation reactions and intramolecular H-transfer by two kinds of hydrazinyl radicals and the conversion of a nitro group to a nitroso group via the disproportionation reaction of nitrosyl hydroxide radicals. The five reaction rate constants are discussed in terms of the heats of reaction by calculating the heats of formation for the reactants, intermediates and products of each reaction using the PM5 method. Phenylazo- and thiazoleazo-N,N-substituted anilines and phenylazo-pyridones exhibited large rate constants of multiple terms, while phenylazo-phenols had the highest light fastness and very small rate constants for the disproportionation reactions of hydrazinyl radicals. Photofading on nylon fabric was primarily controlled by the thermal reactions of photo-induced monohydrogenated dye radicals, which occurred via one or two primary multiple routes. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Attempts were made to enhance the dyeability of polyester fabric by thermal treatment or combined chemical/thermal treatment in hot air or in steam, either slack or under load. Ethanolamine, hydrazine hydrate, ethylene glycol and a benzophenone derivative were applied to the fabric by padding technique prior to the thermal treatment. The dyeability of polyester fabric was found to be improved at nearly boiling without using carriers and/or high-temperature/high-pressure techniques. The rate of dyeing of chemically/thermally treated polyester fabric was found to increase. Differential thermal analysis of the polyester samples was interpreted in terms of dyeability improvement. The glass transition temperature of the treated fabric was found to decrease compared with the untreated one, resulting in an enhancement in the dyeability of polyester fabric with disperse dye. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : The synthesis and spectroscopic properties of monoazo dye series, whose members consist of N-alkylphthalimide diazo components combined with a coupling component containing two ester groups, are reported. Such colourants are potentially alkali-clearable as a consequence not only of the presence of diester functionality on the coupler, but also through use of the base-sensitive phthalimide system. Shortening the N-alkyl group by removing one or two methylene units from a butyl chain made little difference to absorption properties, as would be expected given the relatively minor differences in inductive character produced. Shifts in the absorption maximum of the dyes associated with dibromination of the phthalimidylazo motif and its subsequent cyanodehalogenation were in agreement with theory and literature data for related series. Diester substitution on the coupling component brought about hypsochromism and hypochromism. The effects of ultrasound on the K/S values of the fabric, the fibre structure and the disperse dye were investigated. The results show that the ultrasonic power increases the K/S values of the fabric, disintegrates the large particles of oligomer on the surface of poly(trimethylene terephthalate) fibre into smaller ones and reduces the particle size of the dye in solution. The K/S value of poly(trimethylene terephthalate) fabric dyed using ultrasound is much higher than that without ultrasound, especially when the temperature is over 60 °C. In addition, the adsorption isotherm study shows that the adsorption isotherm can be well fitted by the Langmuir model.
