Résumé : |
Titania exists in three polymorphs, vis. anatase, brookite and rutile. Among these, rutile is thermodynamically most stable, while anatase and brookite are meta stable, readily get converted to rutile on calcination at higher temperature. Brookite phase is very rarely formed under ordinary conditions ; hence it has no commercial significance. But, anatase and rutile are most highly discussed in material science and profoundly important from industrial point of view, particularly pigment industry TiO2 has been using as a pgiment from the very beginning of 20th century. Anatase is more preferred in primers and interior paints, while rutile in exterior ones. However, in some exterior white house paints and latex house paints, both anatase and rutile are used. They are also used in some specialty paints and coatings, like synthetic rubber roof coating, splash zone coating, hear resistant primers, etc. |
