Novel waterborne acrylic resins with unique core/shell structures utilizing modern selfcrosslinking chemistry have been developed. Coatings fromulated with these resins exhibit excellent mar resistance, sandability, good hardness and outstanding resistance toward water and various chemicals such as acetone and methyl ethyl ketone. This paper will describe the design, synthesis, characterization and coating performance of these recently developed self-crosslinkable waterborne acrylic core/shell resins. A mechanistic elucidation of the relationship between the material structure and the coatings performance also with be attempted. |
