Résumé : |
The predominant functions of coatings in most practical applications are that they act as barriers to protect a material against mechanical or corrosive damage or to improve its outer appearance. However, recently there are also applications emerging, in which coatings not only act as a barrier against a hostile environment, but also play a more active role in controlling the interaction of a material with its surrounding. Examples are bioresponsive/biocompatible coatings, coatings for specific optical and medical applications, coatings which control the adhesion of biological cells or act as lubricants, and smart coatings, which can adapt to their environment. Such high-tech applications, however, are more demanding and require the deposition of coatings with strong adhesion to the substrate, well-defined chemical architectures and tailor-made properties. |
