Styrenation of 60% oil length linseed alkyd resin was carried out by post styrenation technique at four different concentrations of styrene. The reaction temp. was 140° C & total reaction time was 9 hrs. It was found thatby styrenation, the drying time, scratch hardness, resistance to solvent, water & chemicals improved considerably. All the improvements were found to be excellent upto 50% styrenation only. Above this limit the improvements were found to be negative. |
