There is an increasing demand for leather articles based on wet-white intermediates. Due to the known limitations of the traditional wet-white processes, Lanxess, one of the largest suppliers to the leather market, are introducing the next generation tanning technology named X-Tan. This process follows a completely different chemical route and addresses most of the current issues.
Virtually all leather articles can be made with X-Tan. Testing has highlighted some valuable advantages such as virtual whiteness of the intermediate (resulting in the name X-white), brilliant colours and advanced physical properties of the leather. Critical health and safety issues have been met, combined with improvements in sustainability and some potential commercial advantages for the tanner. X-Tan is also easy to handle during application and is environmentally friendly. |
