Résumé : |
This paper aims to help paint formulators understand why properly designed copolymers of acrylic-styrene are the desired choice of binders for mid to high PVC exterior paints in terms of cost-performance. An experiment is used to prove that the yellowing of the paints formulated with acrylic-styrene binders is insignificant for the human eye to notice. Along with good dirt-pick up resistance, water and efflorescence resistance gives acrylic-styrene based pains an edge over exterior paints formulated with other binder classes at PVC levels. The parameters such as water resistance, alkali, dirt pick up resistance play a major role in deriving the durability of exterior paint rather than only its UV resistance. |
