The as-prepared HAp coatings were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrum, and scanning electron microscope (SEM) analyses. The influence of ethanol on the phases and microstructures of HAp coatings was investigated. Results show that the coatings’ crystallization shows little change with the increase in ethanol content up to 15%, but the density, homogeneousness, and adhesion with the substrate of HAp coatings obviously improved. The deposition mechanism of the HAp coating is also discussed. Thus, it is helpful to get dense and good-adhesion HAp coatings when ethanol is added into the solution during the hydrothermal electrodeposition process.
