A series of high solid alkyd polymers from soya and dehydrated castor oil fatty acid (SOFA and DCOFA respectively) combination with varying percentage of Dipentaerythritol (DPE ; a hexa-functional polyol), have been synthesized and characterized for their physico chemical, optical, thermal and mechanical properties. For the study purpose the polymers were prepared at 80 % solids keeping the oil length constant. The curing behaviour of the alkyds was studied using FT-IR and DSC. Increasing DPE content in resin backbone was found to increase gloss and hardness. The gloss improvement was also supported well by AFM pictures. Results of 500 hours of QUV exposure revealed higher gloss retention for DP based systems. When compared for the anticorrosive properties, the EIS spectrum reveals that alkyd film containing 100 % DPE has the higher value of impedance. The overall performance of the DPE based system reveals the excellent combination of green aspects with improved coatings which is the need of the day.

TributylétainIndex. décimale : 667.9 Revêtements et enduits Résumé : The main objective of this review is to provide a brief view on the merits, demerits, effects and uses of antifouling paints. The imminent ban of environmentally harmful tributyltin (TBT) and tin based paint products has been the cause of a major change in the antifouling industry. Fouling organisms such as barnacles, tube worms and algae, which accumulate on any submerged surface, greatly increase drag, and reduce speed and fule consumption of the vessel other mechanical damages have also been reported due to fouling. A variety of paints were developed in mid 1800s, which were generally based on copper oxide arsenic and mercuric oxide as popular antifoulants. Antifoulants are one of the many additives usually incorporated within the topcoat paint of marine protective coating system. Today's marine coatings must provide protection and performanceunder extremely harsh conditions. Permalink : https://e-campus.itech.fr/pmb/opac_css/index.php?lvl=notice_display&id=8325

Revêtements:PeintureIndex. décimale : 667.6 Peintures Résumé : During the last decade there has been growing awareness on the ef-fects of pollution caused by human beings, on a livable environment. With respect to paint consumption, lot of activities of green movement and environment are focused on the reduction of the negative effects of this class of products (coatings). There is tremendous development going on in paint manufacturing. The paint industry can and will accept as much as possible, its responsibilities to reduce negative effects of volatile organic compound arising from paint use.
