Skylines of today's metros are increasingly dominated by high rise buildings and commercial complexes with distinctive look and appeal that epitomize the marvel of modern design concepts. Building designers are increasingly using varieties of innovative materials for structural glazing on architectural facades starting from pre-coated metals, anodized aluminium panels, ceramic tiles, glass, composite panels etc. with wide array of colours to create unique look and identity. As a result the contemporary look of commercial office complexes, buildings, corporate houses, shopping plaza is taking a backseat and being transformed with modern architectural facelift. The challenge is to ensure that these structural glazings retain their original colour, appearance and gloss throughout their lifespan. Superdurable powder coatings are becoming the lucrative choices for designer's in the structural glazing industry for architectural facades, door and window frames etc because of their availability in wide array of shades in both solids as well as metallic colour having outstanding exterior durability, colour retention and overall corrosion protection. This paper attempts to highlight the merits of superdurable powder coating and relevant issues from the perspective of designing a viable coating option for the exterior architectural finishing in relation to others. |
