Résumé : |
A new class of materials is fast emerging world wide with a promise to bring novel properties to reality. These materials are not necessarily new in their make up but they are modified to provide new material property and device characteristics in unprecedented ways. More recent advances have led to "hierarchical" structure of materials where each strata imparts a certain specific function. This is the class of "Sol Gel Coatings" Coatings for rearview mirrors and anti-reflective and architectural applications have been in commercial production since the 1960's. But today, sol gel thin film coatings are extensively used for such diverse applications as protective and optical coatings, passivation and planarization layers, sensors, high or low dielectric constant films, inorganic membranes, electro-optic and non linear optical film, electrochromics, semiconducting antistatic coatings, super conducting films, strengthening layers and ferroelectrics. |
