Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : When the excited triplet states of disperse azo dyes with nitro groups abstract hydrogen to generate hydrazinyl (from azo groups) and nitrosyl hydroxide radicals (from nitro groups), both the radicals as H-acceptors carry out azo scission, conversion to nitrogen dioxide via disproportionation reactions and self-decomposition via rearrangement. A kinetic equation was formulated by the sum of these reactions, which describes the initial rates (KPA) of reductive fading. The KPA values were controlled by the rate constants of the reactions of hydrazinyl and nitrosyl hydroxide radicals as H-acceptors, which were estimated by thermochemical analyses of the reactants, intermediates and end products using the semiempirical molecular orbital PM5 method, and by the concentrations of the reactants: H-acceptors and H-donors. The KPA values observed for 12 dyes were explained semi-quantitatively by multiple routes of reactions depending upon to what extent each radical reaction was thermochemically favoured. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : The properties of a series of phthalimide-containing azo disperse dyes and azo dyes with N-methyl phthalimide moieties in their diazo component were investigated and compared when used to colour polyethylene terephthalate. The N-substitution of the phthalimide gave a hypsochromic effect on the colour change and better colour yields on poly(ethylene terephthalate) fabrics, probably because of the electron-donating property of the methyl group and the higher hydrophobicity of phthalimide-containing azo dyes compared with those containing phthalimide moieties. The results show that phthalimide-based azo disperse dyes have excellent dyeing fastness properties and that high wash fastness can be achieved using alkali clearance. This alternative clearance method is important for reducing the environmental impact of the dyeing process by replacing reductive clearing and, in particular, by removing the need for sodium hydrosulphite, which creates a high biological oxygen demand when released in conventional disperse dyeing effluent and which generates aromatic amines. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Colour constancy is a classical problem in computer vision. Although there are a number of colour constancy algorithms based on different assumptions, none of them can be considered as universal. How to select or combine these available methods for different natural image characteristics is an important problem. Recent studies have shown that the texture feature is an important factor to consider when selecting the best colour constancy algorithm for a certain image. In this paper, Weibull parameterisation is used to identify the texture characteristics of colour images. According to the texture similarity, the best colour constancy method (or best combination of methods) is selected out for a specific image. The experiments were carried out on a large data set and the results show that this new approach outperforms current state-of-the-art single algorithms, as well as some combined algorithms. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : The present study was aimed to assess the anti-bacterial activity and dyeing property of the pigments obtained from five fungal species. Cotton fabric and leather samples were dyed with the purified pigments and their anti-bacterial activity was assayed under in-vitro conditions. Post-mordant cotton fabric and leather samples exhibited maximum bacterial reduction when compared with the pre-mordant and dyed samples. Pigment exhaustion, colour coordinates and fastness properties of the dyed cotton fabric and leather samples were also assessed. The toxicity of the pigments was evaluated by seed germination assay. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : A series of novel phenylazo disperse dyes were prepared by coupling selected diazotised 3- or 4-anilines with indol-2-one. The structures of the synthesised dyes were determined by spectroscopic and analytical methods. Solvent effects on the ultraviolet–visible absorption spectra of these novel dyes were studied. The colour of the dyes was evaluated with respect to the substituent therein. Acid and base effects on the visible absorption maxima of the dyes were also reported. The tautomerism of 3-(phenyldiazenyl)indol-2-one was modelled by density functional theory at the B3LYP level. The ultraviolet–visible absorption spectra for the tautomers were reproduced with the time-dependent density functional theory and semi-empirical Zerner's intermediate neglect of differential overlap/spectroscopic (ZINDO/S) method. The predominance of the keto–hydrazone tautomer was confirmed experimentally and theoretically. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : The ratio of the demand for dye by the fibre and the supply of dye by the dyebath is a useful indicator to predict unlevelness in the exhaust dyeing of polyester with disperse dyes, provided that dispersion breakage is small. The ratio can be calculated from the dye exhaustion curve, the dye solubility and the flow rate in the machine. The findings suggest that unlevelness can be successfully controlled by ensuring that dye demand never exceeds dye supply at any moment during the dyeing process. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : A low-cost and environmental-friendly direct dye-based ink-jet printing system was developed. A novel ink-jet pretreatment method was employed, in which the cationic fixing agent, Matexil FC-ER, was applied as the colourless fixing ink and applied only on image areas of the fabric by ink-jet printer. It was found that this new pretreatment method could more effectively enhance the colour strength and improve the wash fastness (greyscale ≥ 3) when compared with traditional exhaust application. The cross-staining of non-image areas of fabric was also apparently decreased using this new method. The light fastness of ink-jet pretreated samples was slightly reduced as the presence of Matexil FC-ER made dyes more sensitive to light.
