However, due to the visco-elastic and inhomogeneous property of leather and the change of physical properties of leather fibre with temperature, humidity and atmospheric pressure, the measurement and analysis of leather frictional forces are a difficult subject to study. As a preliminary and explorative research work, this paper conducts a literature review on friction theories. The frictional forces of leather samples under a constant load and a constant speed are investigated and measured by a computer system. After initial analysis, pattern recognition techniques using four types of clustering methods are used for the analysis of the relationship between leather surface quality and the measured results. Finally, further research work is suggested. Note de contenu : - Literature review on the relevant theories of friction

Qualité -- ContrôleIndex. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : In this paper, the recent development of a leather quality test and three existing test models are reviewed, followed by the description of a new test model developed by the authors. The new model can be used to test leather bending and rigidity. Compared with existing test models, the significant advantages of the new model are that it is non-destructive and gives a high correlation with subjective evaluation results ofleather handle. In addition, it is convenient to combine this model with other test models into an integrated test environment to measure compression, testing, bending and surface friction properties of leather. It is simple and can be used on-line. Note de contenu :

Titre : Objective evaluation of leather handle with artificial neural networks Type de document : texte imprimé Auteurs : Su Zhenwei, Auteur ; Yin Guofu, Auteur ; Zhuo Zhaofei, Auteur Année de publication : 1996 Article en page(s) : p. 106-109 Note générale : Bibliogr. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 675 Technologie du cuir et de la fourrure Résumé : The three problems of the current methods for the objective evaluation of leather handle are analysed and as an alternative, a new approach with artificial neural networks is proposed. This case study, demonstrates that the new approach is capable of handling non-linear relationships among multiple parameters of leather physical properties, and satisfying the preferences of leather handle. More importantly, it could be used to objectively evaluate the handle types and different substances of leather.
