Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Organic photochromic molecules are well established as colorants in the manufacture of niche products, providing striking colour change effects when irradiated with light. This paper describes the industrially important classes of photochromic dye in terms of their development and chemistries, the applications in which their photochromism is employed commercially, and the technical features behind their success. Photochromic systems form the subject of much industrially funded research into nascent high-tech applications that have the potential to become the most commercially significant outlets for photochromic dyes. Those types being scrutinised are therefore also discussed along with the directions in which the industrial use of photochromic colorants may take. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : The effect of alkaline pretreatment with sodium hydroxide and sodium zincate on the dyeability of viscose has been studied. Both agents could enhance the dye accessibility to viscose, but sodium hydroxide was found to be more effective compared with sodium zincate. The maximum exhaustion of different reactive dyes was found with 7.5% w/v sodium hydroxide pretreated samples. Both the rate of dyeing and final dyebath exhaustion of viscose was significantly improved after such pretreatment. The pretreatment could also effectively replace the electrolyte requirement for some reactive dyes. The alkaline pretreatment also generated higher colour depth on the printed fabric. The change in surface morphology of the fibre as a result of sodium hydroxide treatment was examined through scanning electron microphotography. The weight loss as a result of this treatment was critically studied. 10% w/v sodium hydroxide was found to cause maximum loss in weight of the viscose fibre. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : In this paper, different concentrations of cellulase enzyme were used for treating linen fabrics. The pretreated linen fabrics were dyed using a bifunctional reactive dye at various concentrations. The effect of enzyme treatment, together with the dyeing process on the low-stress mechanical properties of the linen fabric, was then investigated. The low-stress mechanical properties were assessed quantitatively, including the tensile, shearing, bending, compression and surface properties of the enzyme-treated and dyed linen fabrics. The results revealed that the enzyme treatment with subsequent dyeing could alter these properties to a greater extent, depending predominantly on the concentration of enzyme used. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : Three Remazol vinyl sulphone-based reactive dyes were selected to investigate their decolorisation by potassium permanganate, in relation to pH, concentration of potassium permanganate and time. The amount of colour removal was measured by ultraviolet–visual spectrometry and it was found that potassium permanganate only partially degraded the dye solution; this was also proved by the percent removal of chemical oxygen demand and total organic carbon. Decolorisation was observed to increase when the pH of the dye solution was decreased. Up to a pH level of 5, the decolorisation efficiency is very much slower, but as the pH level shifts towards 2 the rate of decolorisation becomes relatively faster, while a further decrease in pH results in a rapid change in decolorisation. The concentration of potassium permanganate also showed significant effects on the decolorisation. Rapid decolorisation was observed within 10 min for all three dyes, but after that time the decolorisation became slower. It was characterised by elemental, infrared, proton and carbon nuclear magnetic resonance and mass spectral analysis and used as a catalyst for the reduction of tinidazole. The reduced tinidazole was treated with nitrous acid and 2-naphthol and the resulting azo dye was used for the spectrophotometric determination of the reduction product of tinidazole. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : This study investigates the influence of different finishing conditions on the amount of thermal migration and the wet fastness properties of selected red disperse dyes on polylactic acid fabrics. A comparison was made with a correspondingly finished polyethyleneterephthalate fabric, with a specific objective being to identify the conditions that would give optimum wet fastness to the polylactic acid fabric. A greater thermal migration of dye was observed on the polylactic acid compared with polyethyleneterephthalate fabric under the same heat treatment conditions, resulting in a lower level of wet fastness. The lowering in wet fastness of dyed polylactic acid fabric on processing occurs mainly as a result of thermal migration of disperse dyes during the drying stage at 110 °C. Langues : Anglais (eng) Index. décimale : 667.3 Teinture et impression des tissus Résumé : A colour prediction model containing four parameters of dye concentration, fibre fineness, fabric roughness and dye parameter is developed. The model can predict the shade depth of a dyed polyester fabric. The relationship among these factors and shade depths of dyed polyester fabrics was investigated to elucidate the role of fibre fineness and fabric structure on surface reflectance and colour efficiency. The shades of several additional dyed samples were measured and compared against the predicated values to validate the accuracy and performance of the model. The results showed that the predicated depths of shade matched the experimental data to a good extent.
