Résumé : |
A new relatively wet test cycle for accelerated weathering of wood coatings is developed. The wet period is chosen in such a way that the maximum moisture content of test panels approaches the moisture content of test panels during outdoor exposure in the Netherlands. A long wet period during the test is essential for leaching of low molecular components from water borne paint systems. For twelve commercially available paint systems the results of the new accelerated test cycle are compared with results of outdoor exposure. This comparison is based on changes in water uptake of painted wooden test panels and on changes in visco-elastic behaviour of the paint films. The test results show clearly that the water barrier function and the visco-elastic behaviour of the paint systems can change considerably during weathering. The important role of leaching during the test is confirmed. The newly develop test cycle correlates well with outdoor exposure at Delft, the Netherlands. |
