Résumé : |
Using new types of special-effect pigments gave rise to the need for further improvements to the already good chip resistance of coating compositions, especially basecoats. By using a combination of thermal and thermomechanical analytical methods, the authors found out which binder combinations in basecoats can lead to the best chip resistance. The paints can be evaluated independently of the way in which special adhesion tests are carried out or various coating compositions are prepared. |
Note de contenu : |
- A shematic stone chip situation for a typical multi-coat finish
- Three test methods to illustrate the range of properties
- The polyacrylate dispersion proved to be the hardest component
- Glass transitions are characterised by a drop of the storage modulus E' values
- Best adhesion and chip resistance with a high polyurethane content in the basecoat
- Good adhesion and chip resistance with the paints with different types of pigmentation
- Morphological interpretation of thermal mechanical characteristics
- Influence of the binder ratios on the morphology of the paint films
- Influence of the binder ratios on the elasticity of the paint films
- Transferability and limitations of the methods
- Practical support in the development of paints |
