Résumé : |
Rheoloqy is a fundamental property that affects the performance of coatings. Modern rheometers have the ability to classify many aspects of behaviour that cannot be measured using simple viscosity measurements. The following discussion compares basic rheology measuring techniques of flow, creep and oscillation and how they can be applied to coatings measurement to classify actual performance differences. |
Note de contenu : |
- Three basic techniques for classifying materials : A basic model for flow measurement in a liquid
- Newtonian liquids
- Pseudoplasticity
- Thixotropy
- Dilatancy
- Plastic and viscoplasticity
- Flow measurements on three paints
- Creep
- Oscillation : The nature of the elastic behaviour is best measured through an oscillation measurement;-In reality very few materials exhibit pure elastic or pure Newtonian (viscous) behaviour; - The linear viscoelastic region is necessary to define elastic behaviour; - Prediction about behaviour by comparing oscillation measurements; - Useful and simple measurements can be made with limited understanding of rehological theory |
