The reflow behaviour of clearcoats is determined largely by their viscoelastic properties. Against this background, methods including Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA) and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) were used to characterise clearcoats. The determination of the position and width of the glass transition point, enthalpy relaxation and crosslinking density provides an important insight into the varying behaviour of clearcoats when scratched. Measuring the time-dependent enthalpy relaxation has proved to be a useful method for predicting the reflow behaviour of coatings. |
