Résumé : |
The theoretical light scattering efficiency of commonly used white pigments, extenders and microvoids dispersed in a polymer film has been computed at λ = 5500 Å as a function of particle or void size. Either Mie or Aden Kerker's theory has been used for computation depending upon the geometry of scattering particles. The utility of these results for selection and optimum utilization of different scattering materials for paint formulations is discussed. Finally the effect of PVC on the opacity of rutile based paints is discussed in the framework of modified Stieg's model for hiding power based on the dependent scattering theory of Fitzwater. |
